Why We Don't Have a Phone Number (And Why That's Better for You)

It's one of the first things people notice about our contact page: there's no phone number. In an industry where most businesses list a phone number front and center, that seems unusual. So let us explain.

We made the deliberate decision to operate without a phone line for several reasons, all of which benefit our customers.

First, phone calls interrupt focused work. Our milling team is operating heavy machinery. Our grading team needs concentration to evaluate each piece accurately. Our logistics team is coordinating multiple deliveries. Every time a phone rings, someone has to stop what they're doing — and in a sawmill environment, distractions can be dangerous.

Second, email creates a written record. When you email us your project requirements, dimensions, species preferences, and delivery details, we have a clear, accurate record that we can reference throughout the process. Phone conversations are prone to miscommunication and forgotten details.

Third, email lets us give you a better answer. When you email a question about species availability or pricing, we can check our actual inventory, consult with our milling team, and respond with accurate, complete information. A phone call would get you a rushed best guess.

Fourth, it reduces overhead. Not having a phone system and dedicated receptionist saves us money — and we pass those savings directly to our customers through competitive pricing on our lumber.

We respond to all emails within one business day — usually much faster. For complex inquiries, we may ask follow-up questions to make sure we understand your needs perfectly. The result is fewer miscommunications, more accurate quotes, and a better experience overall.

Give it a try. Email us at info@northiowalumber.com and see how responsive and thorough our communication is. We think you'll prefer it to being put on hold.
