Our tiered pricing system rewards larger orders with meaningful savings. Here is a detailed breakdown of how volume discounts work.
Tier 1: Under 500 Board Feet
Standard PricingSmall orders under 500 board feet are priced at our standard per-board-foot rate, which varies by species and grade. This tier is ideal for accent walls, single-room projects, furniture builds, and sample orders. No minimum order is required for yard pickup; delivery minimums apply for shipped orders.
Tier 2: 500 - 2,000 Board Feet
5% DiscountOrders in this range receive a 5% discount off standard pricing across all species and grades in the order. This tier typically covers single-room renovations, kitchen remodels with reclaimed flooring, or a full set of ceiling beams for a great room. The discount is applied automatically at the time of quoting.
Tier 3: 2,000 - 10,000 Board Feet
10% DiscountThe 10% tier is our most popular for residential whole-home projects and smaller commercial fit-outs. At 2,000 to 10,000 board feet, you are likely flooring an entire house, cladding multiple accent walls, or outfitting a restaurant interior. Delivery is included for locations within 100 miles of Mason City at this tier.
Tier 4: 10,000+ Board Feet
15%+ DiscountFor orders exceeding 10,000 board feet, we provide custom pricing that starts at 15% off standard rates and may go higher depending on species, processing requirements, and delivery logistics. This tier serves commercial developers, multi-unit housing projects, and large-scale installations. You will be assigned a dedicated account coordinator who manages your order from quote through delivery.
Stacking discounts: Volume discounts apply to the total order regardless of how many species or grades are included. A mixed order of 1,000 BF of oak and 1,500 BF of pine qualifies for Tier 3 pricing on the entire order. Repeat customers with annual volume exceeding 20,000 BF may qualify for additional loyalty pricing — ask us about our contractor and designer partner programs.

How to Reduce Shipping Costs
- Combine orders: If you need material for multiple phases, placing a single large order and scheduling phased delivery is more cost-effective than multiple small shipments.
- Choose yard pickup: Picking up from our Mason City facility eliminates shipping costs entirely. We will help you load.
- Coordinate with neighbors: If you know others in your area ordering reclaimed lumber, let us know. We can combine deliveries to the same region and split the delivery fee.
- Order at Tier 3 or above: Delivery within 100 miles is included free for orders of 2,000 board feet and above.
Return Policy
We stand behind every piece of lumber we sell. Our return policy is designed to be fair, straightforward, and hassle-free.
7-Day Inspection Period
You have 7 calendar days from the date of delivery or pickup to inspect your order. If any material arrives damaged, misgraded, or not matching the species, dimensions, or grade stated on your invoice, contact us immediately and we will arrange a replacement or issue a full refund for the affected boards. No questions asked.
Changed Your Mind?
If you ordered material that you no longer need — and it has not been cut, installed, or modified — we accept returns within 30 days of purchase for a store credit. The lumber must be returned in the same condition it was received. Return shipping is the responsibility of the buyer, or you may drop it off at our Mason City yard at no charge.
Custom Processing Orders
Orders that include custom processing (specific profiles, non-standard dimensions, pre-applied finishes) are non-returnable unless the material does not meet the agreed-upon specifications. Custom work is performed to your exact instructions, and we confirm all details before milling begins.
Damage During Transit
All shipments are insured. If your lumber arrives with damage that occurred during transit — broken boards, water damage from exposure, or missing pieces — document the damage with photos and contact us within 48 hours. We will file the freight claim and either replace the damaged material or issue a refund at your choice.
What Our Customers Say
Do not just take our word for it. Here is what builders, designers, and homeowners have to say about working with North Iowa Lumber.
We ordered 4,000 board feet of reclaimed white oak for a restaurant renovation in Minneapolis. The quality was outstanding — every board was exactly as described, kiln dried, and ready to install. The delivery arrived on the day they promised, and their driver even helped us unload. We have since used North Iowa Lumber on three more commercial projects and they have been flawless every time.
Sarah Lindgren
General Contractor, Lindgren Builds — Minneapolis, MN
As an architect specializing in adaptive reuse, I need reliable suppliers who understand historic materials. North Iowa Lumber provided spec sheets, samples, and material certifications for a LEED-certified office project in Des Moines. Their consultation team helped me calculate waste factors and identify the right species for each application. They are my go-to source for reclaimed wood in the Midwest.
David Muhlenberg
Principal Architect, Prairie Design Studio — Des Moines, IA
I am a hobbyist woodworker and I drove to their Mason City yard to pick out boards for a dining table. The staff spent over an hour helping me select walnut planks with matching grain, and they even resawed one thick slab into two bookmatched panels for the tabletop at no extra charge. The table turned out stunning, and everyone who sees it asks where I got the wood.
Tom Kettner
Homeowner & Woodworker — Ames, IA
We purchased reclaimed barn siding and hand-hewn beams for our new farmhouse build in rural Fillmore County. The character of the wood is unreal — you just cannot get this kind of patina and history from new material. The pricing was reasonable, the team was knowledgeable, and they delivered exactly what they promised. Our builder said it was the nicest reclaimed lumber he has ever worked with.
