Why Work With Us

There are other reclaimed lumber dealers out there. Here is why builders, architects, and homeowners across the Midwest keep coming back to North Iowa Lumber.

30+ Years of Experience

Our team has been working with reclaimed wood since the early 1990s. We have handled tens of thousands of board feet from hundreds of structures across the upper Midwest. That depth of experience means we can identify species on sight, spot hidden defects before they become problems, and recommend the right material for any application with confidence.

Professional-Grade Equipment

Our Mason City facility is outfitted with industrial metal detectors, a 5,000 board-foot dehumidification kiln, a 20-inch four-head planer/moulder, a 36-inch resaw bandsaw, and a 43-inch wide-belt sander. This is not a hobby shop — it is a production facility capable of processing thousands of board feet per week to exacting standards.

Deep, Rotating Inventory

At any given time, we carry over 50,000 board feet of graded, kiln-dried reclaimed lumber in our yard. Oak, pine, fir, chestnut, maple, walnut, and more — available in dimensional stock, beams, flooring, and siding. Our inventory turns regularly as new salvage projects come in, so there is always something new to discover.

Fair, Transparent Pricing

Every quote we provide includes a detailed breakdown of species, grade, board footage, processing charges, and delivery costs. There are no hidden fees and no surprise upcharges. We price competitively against other reclaimed dealers and often come in below the cost of equivalent new-growth hardwoods, especially for premium species like white oak and American chestnut.

Reliable & On Time

When we say your order will ship on Thursday, it ships on Thursday. Our logistics team coordinates every delivery with precision — from confirming truck availability to calling ahead the day before arrival. For large commercial projects, we assign a dedicated coordinator who keeps your delivery schedule aligned with your construction timeline.

Committed to Sustainability

Every board we salvage is one less board in a landfill and one less tree that needs to be cut. Our processing facility runs a zero-waste operation: sawdust goes to local farms for animal bedding, off-cuts are repurposed for small-batch woodworking projects, and our kiln runs on high-efficiency dehumidification technology that uses a fraction of the energy of conventional lumber drying.

Industries We Serve

Reclaimed lumber is not just for rustic cabins. Our materials find their way into an extraordinary range of projects and industries across the region.

Residential Construction

From new-build farmhouses to urban loft renovations, homeowners choose our reclaimed flooring, wall paneling, ceiling beams, and trim to add warmth and character that new lumber simply cannot replicate. We supply everything from a single accent wall to whole-house material packages.

Commercial & Retail

Restaurants, breweries, retail stores, and office spaces use our reclaimed wood to create memorable interiors that tell a story. We have supplied bar tops, feature walls, shelving, and ceiling treatments for commercial fit-outs across Iowa, Minnesota, and Wisconsin.

Hospitality & Hotels

Boutique hotels, bed-and-breakfasts, and resorts use reclaimed wood to establish a sense of place and history. We have provided headboards, lobby feature walls, reception desks, and exterior cladding for hospitality properties seeking that authentic Midwest character.

Restoration & Preservation

When a historic structure needs period-accurate materials, we are the first call. Our inventory includes species, dimensions, and profiles that match original construction from the 1850s through the 1950s. We work with preservation architects and historical societies to source materials that meet Secretary of the Interior standards.

Architectural & Design Firms

Architects and interior designers rely on us for material samples, spec sheets, custom mockups, and reliable supply. We understand the design process and work within submittal timelines, providing the documentation and consistency that professional projects demand.

Woodworking & Furniture Shops

Custom furniture makers and woodworking studios purchase our kiln-dried, graded hardwood stock for tables, benches, shelving, and one-of-a-kind pieces. We offer hand-selected boards and can rip or resaw to specific thicknesses for furniture-grade applications.

Artists & Makers

Sculptors, sign makers, and mixed-media artists source unique character boards from our inventory — pieces with nail holes, saw marks, patina, and weathering that give their work authenticity. We welcome studio visits and are happy to pull boards with specific visual characteristics.

Educational Institutions

Schools, universities, and trade programs use our reclaimed materials for woodworking classes, sustainability demonstrations, and campus building projects. We offer educational pricing and have partnered with programs at Iowa State, UNI, and NIACC to supply materials for student projects.
